New York Police Officer, Daniel Pantaleo, has been fire from his position as of August 19, 2019. Officer Pantaleo is the New York policeman who sparked controversy  do allegedly using an illegal choke hold that killed Eric Garner in 2014. This incident, to some is the starting point for the “Black Lives Matter” movement in the United States. Shortly after the incident, calls where made for the indictments on Officer Pantaleo, but the charges were dropped do to, “lack of evidence”. Despite that, the officer was released from his position for his use of the lethal choke hold that took Mr. Garner’s life. While many others believe his termination is unfair, Commissioner James O’neill stood by his decision, stating “It is clear that Daniel Pantaleo can no longer effectively serve as a New York City police officer.”
